Some 24.2 million pilgrims and tourists will have visited Rome during the Holy Year, which ends Jan. 6, officials predict.

Today the moment arrived for the Roman authorities to evaluate the Jubilee and its 3,400 events, including religious events and other manifestations, which mobilized 70,000 volunteers.

The figure comes close to forecasts made several years ago, when the Roman Agency for the Jubilee began to operate. The agency is an enterprise whose shareholders are Italian public institutions.

The agency helped oversee plans to handle the Jubilee Year crowds, including World Youth Day. It also maintained a press office and helped organize almost 70,000 volunteers who assisted at about 400 events.
