Twenty-four hours after the quake, Caritas-El Salvador went to the assistance of San Vicente, one of the worst affected areas, in addition to the regions of La Paz, Cuscatlan and Cabanas. Powdered milk and 1,000 gallons of water, as well as emergency materials, including fabrics for temporary shelters, were sent as first aid.
Caritas´ national office also sent a group of its technicians to support its personnel in the San Vicente office.
Catholic Relief Service was given a donation of 12 tons of basic foods by the U.N. World Food Program, which were taken to San Vicente on Tuesday, the very day of the quake.
Moreover, members of Caritas´ international network, who were working in areas of emergency and reconstruction affected by the Jan. 13 quake, also traveled to San Vicente.
