The bishops this week launched their Fraternity Campaign 2001 with the slogan «Life Yes, Drugs No.» A document by the bishops criticizes the government of Brasilia for giving priority to the punishment of drug users rather than preventive programs.

The bishops suggest to the authorities that they promote cultural, sports and recreational programs for youth, and increase job possibilities, as a more effective way to reduce drug addiction.
