Vatican Aide to Tour Quake-Stricken Peru

VATICAN CITY, JULY 18, 2001 (Zenit.org).- A Vatican aide will tour quake-stricken Peru and deliver financial aid from the Pope.

Archbishop Paul Josef Cordes, president of the Pontifical Council «Cor Unum,» will first stop in Panama to meet with bishops and talk about the spirit and structure of charitable organizations.

After his Panama visit ends Friday, the archbishop will travel to Peru, to inspect areas affected by the June 23 earthquake. He will express the Pope´s sympathy and impart his blessing, in addition to making a financial contribution for emergency needs.

The archbishop will visit Tacna and Moquegua, which suffered the worst damage in the quake.
