The Asian nation has been «tried by years of an oppressive regime and by the consequences of the present conflict to defeat the scourge of terrorism,» the conference said in a statement.
The bishops´ conference entrusted Caritas-Italy with the administration of the funds, in cooperation with Vatican charitable institutions and international groups active in Afghanistan.
