In his first meeting with the media, the new bishop of Almeria, Adolfo González, focused on this question, while expressing his support for «a reasonable and respectful integration with the different cultures and religions.»
He emphasized, however, that immigrants must also respect the religion of those who welcome them, because «at times, there is the impression that one must only respect the difference of the one who arrives.»
Bishop González also said that immigration must be regulated to avoid «creating a problem of cultural integration even more grave than immigration itself.»
Spain has seen a large influx of immigrants, many of them Muslims, from North Africa.
