José Americio Asprilla, then a member of the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC), said he was present at the May 2 massacre when the rebel group confronted Colombia’s United Self-Defense group.

The latter had taken shelter in a church, along with 300 civilians.

According to Asprilla, a FARC commander decided to fire at the church resulting in the death of 119 people. The public prosecutor is still investigating to identify those most responsible for the massacre.
