The body of Father Thomas Harsidiyono, 50, was found on Friday morning with grave wounds in the head, the Missionary News Service Agency (Misna) reported.

This source added that the police consider it probable that the priest was killed during an attempted robbery and exclude the possibility that his death was due to tensions between Christians and Muslims, which exist in other parts of the large Indonesian archipelago.

Persons close to the parish priest confirmed that he had no enemies and had never received threats.
