DHAKA, Bangladesh, NOV. 26, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI has assigned a coadjutor archbishop for Dhaka, Bangladesh: Bishop Patrick D’Rozario of Chittagong.

Archbishop D’Rozario, 67, will assist Archbishop Paulinus Costa, 74.

The Dhaka Archdiocese has just around 80,000 Catholics in a population of more than 31 million. 

Bangladesh is 89.5% Muslim and 9.6% Hindu, according to a 2004 calculation, meaning that Christians and other minority religions form less than 1% of the population of the South Asian nation.

However the Dhaka Archdiocese is served by 120 priests and 709 religious.

Patrick D’Rozario was born in Chittagong in 1943. He was ordained a priest in 1972 and consecrated a bishop in 1990.
