LONDON, England, Nov. 2, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW) released a statement mourning the death of former Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Faustino Sainz Muñoz.
Archbishop Sainz died in his native Spain on October 31 after suffering from a yearlong illness resulting from an aggressive brain tumor.
Msgr. Marcus Stock, General Secretary of the CBCEW recalled the service of the Papal representative in Great Britain.
«The Bishops remember Archbishop Faustino with great affection and admiration. His ministry as the personal representative of the Holy Father was exercised with untiring devotion and great attentiveness to the needs of our countries,» he stated in a press release.
«Before his premature retirement due to ill health, he had won the profound respect of the diplomatic community and the hearts of the episcopal conferences he worked with.»
Msgr. Stock conveyed their condolences to Archbishop Faustino’s family and friends and assured them of their prayers.
«We pray that on this Solemnity of All Saints, in the presence of those many blessed souls who now behold the divine countenance, his soul too will enjoy the loving embrace of our Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus. May he rest in peace. Amen,» Msgr. Stock said.
