Representatives of the “One of Us” campaign met in Krakow, Poland to celebrate their first European Conference, as well as surpassing 2 million signatures.
According to the petition website, The «One of Us» campaign is a European citizen’s initiative (ECI) that is seeking «juridical protection of the dignity, the right to life and of the integrity of every human being from conception in the areas of EU competence in which such protection is of particular importance.»
The signatures were collected in 28 EU Member States with a significant number of signatures collected in 20 of these states, representing 77 % of the European population, according to the minimum requirement by the European legislation.
Encouraged by this success, representatives met in Krakow to develop a proposed charter to serve as a starting point for the launching of a European Federation that can embrace all the organizations working to defend human life in the European Union.
The conference will also begin preparations for a public hearing required to verify signatures by the European Union. The verification is expected to take place in February 2014.
“The organizers of the Initiative have benefited from the advice of experts from different European countries for the preparation of this hearing, such as Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Spain and Romania,” a communique by the “One of Us” campaign stated. “These experts have provided further information on the handling of the Initiative from legal and scientific perspectives.”
The “One of Us” initiative brings together almost all pro-life and pro-family entities in Europe.
