Pope Francis Greets President of Togolese Republic

Emphasizing Need for Joint Effort for Security, Stability, and Peace

The Holy Father Francis on April 29, 2019, received in audience the President of the Togolese Republic,  Faure Gnassingbe Essozimna.
During the talks characterized as “cordial” by the Vatican, the good relations were highlighted between the Holy See and Togo, and the prospects for their further consolidation. In this context, it focused on the current situation of the country, highlighting the contribution of the Catholic Church to the integral development of the Togolese people, especially through its commitment to education and healthcare.
Finally, it was discussed some specific challenges of West African countries and sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing the need for joint efforts at regional and international level in favor of security, stability, and peace.
