Pope Francis has praised the “noble” and “precious” work of nurses and midwives.
During his Angelus address today, Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, the Holy Father did so, recalling that the World Health Organization designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife”, in honor of the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
“I am pleased to remember that 2020 has been designated internationally as the ‘Year of the Nurse and Midwife,'” the Pope said.
“Nurses,” the Holy Father said, “are the most numerous health workers, and closest to the sick, and midwives are perhaps the noblest of the professions.
Pope Francis concluded, urging those present: “Let us pray for all of them, so that they can do their precious work at best.”

The Holy Father then invited everyone in St. Peter’s Square and following the Angelus to join him in praying for this. As usual, Pope Francis concluded reminding those present to pray for him and wishing them all a good Sunday and lunch.
