The event in the square in front of the basilica of Zapopan consisted of a day of music, reflection and public adoration of the Eucharistic Jesus by young people from all over the world.
The event began at 10 a.m. Saturday. There was a cultural performance with Catholic songwriters and local musical groups in the Alterno Forum at the University of Guadalajara.
After a pilgrimage through the avenues of Zapopan, a catechesis took place at 5:30 p.m. in the Americas Square, led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
A Mass followed, presided over by the papal legate, Cardinal Jozef Tomko. Then a second performance took place, with songs and prayer.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament began at 11 p.m. Until 6 a.m. Sunday the young people took turns keeping vigil before the Blessed Sacrament.
A closing Mass was presided over by Bishop Francisco Moreno, president of the Mexican episcopate’s Commission for Youth Pastoral Care, who received the young people’s commitment to proclaim Christ in the world.
