Fargo Bishop´s Resignation Accepted; Coadjutor Takes Over

FARGO, North Dakota, MARCH 19, 2002 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II accepted the resignation of Bishop James Stephen Sullivan, of the Diocese of Fargo, in keeping with Canon 401, Section 2, of the Code of Canon Law.

The Vatican Press Office added Monday that Bishop Sullivan will be succeeded by Coadjutor Bishop Samuel J. Aquila.

Canon 401 Section 2 refers to cases where «a diocesan bishop who, because of illness or some other grave reason, has become unsuited for the fulfillment of his office.»
