The gesture commemorates the 50th anniversary of the archbishop´s death, June 8, 1952. «A day like today is propitious to celebrate the life of Archbishop Sanabria and the fruits of his existence,» President Pacheco said.

He wanted to draw similarities between the archbishop´s life with the objectives of the development plan, contending that both emphasize a frontal attack on poverty, in favor of the poor, the handicapped and the marginalized.

Archbishop Sanabria headed the archdiocese from 1940 until his death. He began his ministry by revealing in a pastoral letter his profound concern over the social question, and his willingness to contribute toward the resolution of the country´s problems.
