Operation Juan Diego 2002 includes security measures and basic services for visitors. The government of the capital city announced that it is preparing accommodation for some 10,000 poor pilgrims.
The accommodation will be of two types: provisional, including large tents; and the premises of elementary and secondary schools of the area.
The tents will give shelter to pilgrims staying only one night, while the schools will house those staying longer.
All pilgrims at the canonization will have access to medical services, public security and potable water.
The Church estimates that 1 million people will arrive in Mexico City for the canonization of the 16th-century Indian who saw the Virgin of Guadalupe.
