Father Aime Ndjabu and Father Francis Mateseso were killed Saturday in the attack on the parish of Nyakasanza. The attack was launched by a group of some 10 militiamen, the Misna missionary agency reported, quoting U.N. personnel.

Some witnesses said the militiamen who looted and destroyed the parish may have been under the influence of drugs.

Confrontations between Lundu and Hema extremists in Bunia are of a political and ethnic nature.

Last Tuesday, Congolese Father Raphael Ngon was also killed in Bunia. He was the first to report a massacre perpetrated last month in Drodo, 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Bunia.
