The medical staff of a first aid station never knows who might walk in next – and what their needs might be. But the workers at the new station in St. Peter’s Square had a truly unexpected visitor on November 16, 2018: Pope Francis.
As might be expected, he arrived unannounced and with little fanfare; he just walked from home (Casa Santa Marta, which isn’t far).
According to the Vatican, the Pope greeted all the poor people present, handing them a blessed rosary and exchanging a few words. He greeted the volunteers and physicians.
During the visit, the Holy Father was accompanied by Msgr. Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization. And when they were done, the Holy Father walked home.
