Pope Francis has many visitors at the Vatican, from the world’s most famous political and religious leaders to Rome’s homeless.
On September 19, 2019, U2 lead singer Bono visited the Holy Father at Casa Santa Marta. Bono was at the Vatican to support Scholas, the Pontifical foundation. Scholas is an international organization of pontifical right, chaired by Argentinean José María del Corral, born from the desire of the then Archbishop Bergoglio in the Buenos Aires suburbs with the goal of providing educational experiences based on participation and personal commitment, according to an educational model based on the meeting, dialogue and respect for diversity.
According to Italian news agency ANSA, the Pope and Bono discussed the abuse situation in Ireland.
«I told him about the feeling that the abusers were protected more than the abused,» Bono was quoted by ANSA. «I saw the pain on his face, he seems a sincere man to me…an extraordinary man for extraordinary times.»
