Rev. Aleksander Ziejewski was attacked and beaten in the sacristy of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Szczecin, Poland, on July 28, 2019.
It happened on Sunday late in the afternoon, before the Holy Mass. Three perpetrators at the age of 30-40 entered the sacristy. They demanded chasubles. They said they wanted to celebrate the Mass. The parish priest and the sacristan refused to give them chasubles. They were severely beaten. Both of the victims were taken to the hospital. The police detained the perpetrators.
According to the Polish Press Agency, the perpetrators are between 27 and 53 years old and have already a police record.
The spokesman of the Curia of Szczecin-Kamień, Rev. Sławomir Zyga told the Polish Press Agency that the attack probably had a religious background. “We ask for prayer for the victims of this brutal beating as well as prayer for the conversion and repentance of the perpetrators,” appealed the spokesman of the Curia.
