Pope Francis has “authorized an investigation” — still “underway” — on “financial and administrative questions,” concerning the Sistine Chapel Choir, announced the Vatican in a brief press release in Italian on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 around 8:45 pm, confirming rumors that appeared in the Italian press last July.
An investigation of the Vatican judiciary was opened, as well as an investigation conducted by an “Apostolic Visitor.”
The management of the Administrative Director of the Pontifical Sistine Chapel Choir, Michelangelo Nardella, will be the object of these investigations.
Monsignor Massimo Palombella, SDB, the Choir’s Director — appointed by Benedict XVI in 2010 and confirmed by Pope Francis in 2015 –, and Mr Nardella himself — suspended from his functions–, were heard , assisted by their lawyers, according to “Vatican Insider.”
For his part, the “Visitor,” Monsignor Mario Giordana, questioned some twenty adult singers and the parents of the Pueri cantores, more than thirty children who follow their school courses at the Choir’s Schola Puerorum, according to Il Fatto Quotidano.
