A papal charity founded in 1992 by Pope John Paul II has concluded its annual meeting in Peru, approving grants equaling some $2 million.
The Populorum Progressio Foundation studied 222 proposals during their June 17-21 meeting. Of those, they chose 171 to receive aid.
Cardinal Robert Sarah, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, participated in the meetings.
Countries with great populations of indigenous peoples are receiving the most aid, namely Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia.
