John Paul II to visit Armenia in September 2001

ROME, DEC. 24, 2000 (ZENIT.org) – John Paul II will visit Armenia in September of 2001, according to the Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Karekin II.

"During my visit to the Vatican, I invited the Pope to travel to Armenia on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity as the official state religion," explained the partriach in a public declaration, published by the agency AFP. "The invitation was accepted and now we must fix the date of the papal visit."

The visit has not yet been officially confirmed by the Vatican.
