Ohio Native Named to Papal Posts in Caribbean

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 27, 2001 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appointed Bishop Timothy P. Broglio apostolic nuncio in the Dominican Republic and apostolic delegate in Puerto Rico, and raised him to the dignity of archbishop.

Bishop Broglio was an adviser of nunciatures. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1951, and ordained a priest in 1977.

He entered the Vatican diplomatic service in 1983. The new archbishop has worked in the nunciatures of the Ivory Coast, Paraguay and in the Vatican secretariat´s section for relations with states.
