Japanese Bishops Publish Pastoral Letter on Life

TOKYO, MAR. 7, 2001 (Zenit.org).- The Catholic bishops of Japan have issued a pastoral letter on the defense of life.

The document, «Reverence for Life: A Message of the Catholic Bishops of Japan for the 21st Century,» reaffirms the conviction «that life is the most important [thing] … to help change this new century.»

The letter analyzes the challenges posed by Japanese society in respect to life, and addresses issues as euthanasia, human embryo research, and cloning. The bishops emphasize that respect is always due the inviolable right to life.
