At 40, German Aid Group Still Helping Latin America

ERFURT, Germany, DEC. 2, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Adveniat, the German Catholic Church´s aid organization for Latin America, launched its annual collection today with a Mass here presided over by Honduran Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga.

The archbishop of Tegucigalpa called Adveniat a praiseworthy example of German Catholics´ ability to share, and a reason for hope for Catholics in Latin America.

Adveniat, which marked its 40th anniversary last month, has funded 200,000 pastoral projects with a total of $3.8 billion.

Its work concentrates on the construction of churches, chapels, episcopal centers and social assistance.
