Joseph Murphy, a native of the Parish of Donoughmore, was born Aug. 16, 1968. He earned a bachelor´s degree from Maynooth in 1989. He earned a licentiate in theology from the Gregorian University and was ordained to the priesthood in July 1993. That September he returned to the Gregorian and eventually began doctoral studies in theology.
He also started working in the English-language section of the Secretariat of State in October 1997.
