John Paul II Meets 5 Eastern and Orthodox Leaders

VATICAN CITY, JAN. 25, 2002 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II this morning privately met five representatives of the Eastern and Orthodox Churches who participated Thursday in the Day of Prayer for Peace.

They were Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, «first among equals» of Orthodoxy; Greek-Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius IV Hazim of Antioch; Catholicos Mar Dinkha IV of the Assyrian Church; Russian Metropolitan Pitirim of Volokolamsk and Juriev, vicar of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Moscow; and Orthodox Archbishop Anastas of Albania.

The Christian leaders came to the Vatican with their entourages. The Press Office did not reveal details of their audience.
