Supreme Knight Named to Council for the Laity

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, MARCH 1, 2002 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II has named Carl Anderson, supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus, as one of 24 new members of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.

Anderson, who also serves on the Pontifical Academy for Life, was one of 18 lay leaders named by the Pope this week. He is the only American among the newly named members, the Knights said in a statement.

Also named as a consultor to the council was David L. Schindler, dean and professor of theology at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., the statement said.
