Information Science to Be Focus of Conference

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 24, 2002 (ZENIT.org).- A conference on the Church and information science, touted as a first of its kind in the Americas, will be held in Monterrey, Mexico, from April 1-4.

The meeting was publicized on Internet by Monsignor Enrique Planas, general coordinator of RIIAL, an institution directed by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications in cooperation with the Latin American bishops´ council (CELAM). It functions as an information network.

The initiative is an attempt to share «the most possible experiences, criteria and services,» of RIIAL´s 10-year existence, Monsignor Planas explained.

Speakers from the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, Spain, Italy and Portugal will address the conference.
