ROME, MAY 19, 2002 (Zenit.org).-Catholic Bishop Everest Nduhirubusa of Ruyigi was kidnapped on Saturday together with his driver.

Hutu rebels of the Forces for the Defense of Democracy managed to kill the two gendarmes, who acted as his bodyguards, reported Elie Niyonzima, administrator of Muranvya.

The Bishop, driving through the Kibira forest — a rebel zone — in the afternoon, was kidnapped in Musenyi, Niyonzima disclosed.

“Two gendarmes, who acted as bodyguards, were killed by firearms,” Niyonzima added.
