ROME, MAY 21, 2002 (Zenit.org).-The September 11 attacks have unleashed a reevaluation of individual identity, which must be inclusive–not exclusive–and which challenges Christians, the president of the Italian Episcopate said.

Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the Pope´s Curate for the diocese of Rome, delivered the opening address of the 49th General Assembly of Italian Bishops on Monday. The Cardinal described the international scene as profoundly “disturbed and changed.”

Looking at the international panorama, the president of the Italian Episcopal Conference spent time analyzing the lessons to be learned from the terrorist attacks on New York´s Twin Towers and the Pentagon in Washington D.C.
