Ghanaian President Received in Audience

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 9, 2002 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II received in audience John Agyekum Kufuor, president of Ghana, a country the Pope visited in May 1980.

The Vatican has not disclosed details of the Saturday meeting.

Just under 2.5 million of Ghana´s 20 million people are Catholics. Ghana has 300 parishes and about 2,200 missionary centers. The Church runs over 1,000 schools at all levels, and some 300 health institutions, including hospitals, day-care clinics, leprosariums and orphanages.
