Archbishop Vincent Concessao of Delhi lamented the targeting of innocent people — daily wage earners among the poorest of the poor. The victims had gathered in a house to watch a cricket match between England and India.

Authorities said the attackers had dressed up as Hindu priests. Those involved in the attack should be brought to justice as early as possible, the archbishop added in statements to the Catholic agency SAR News.

He also offered his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed his sympathy to the injured.
