Cardinal Sodano Gets an Honorary Doctorate

WARSAW, Poland, JUNE 18, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Vatican secretary of state, received an honorary doctorate from Warsaw’s Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski Catholic University.

The 76-year-old Italian cardinal was conferred the degree today in recognition of the «constructive dialogue in favor of peace he carries out with states on the international scene,» the university said in a statement.

Present at the ceremony to confer the degree was Cardinal Jozef Glemp, archbishop of Warsaw and primate of Poland, as well as the papal nuncio, Archbishop Jozef Kowalczyk.

During his visit, Cardinal Sodano will meet with Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller and President Aleksander Kwasniewski. On Thursday, the Vatican secretary of state will preside over the eucharistic celebration and the Corpus Christi procession through the streets of the Polish capital.
