A lay group promoting the initiative has already run out of sign-up forms for people who want to volunteer to pray the rosary.
On May 18, John Paul II’s birthday, a 15-kilo box of signed forms were sent to the Vatican as an indication of the 2.7 million rosaries that had been prayed. That number has risen by 1 million — and is still climbing, say organizers.
Regnum Mariae, the organization that is promoting the initiative, is dedicated to spreading devotion to Mary, following the spirituality of St. Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort.
The campaign, which includes the distribution of a guide to pray the rosary, sent the signed forms to the Pope in response to his appeal for prayer for peace, especially in the Middle East.
