Archbishop Prendergast, who is also apostolic administrator of Yarmouth, succeeds Bishop Gilles Cazabon of Saint-Jerome, Quebec, who has held this office since 1997.
As commissioner, Archbishop Prendergast will exercise authority over the Sons of Mary, a pious association, and its members.
