Cardinal Alfonso López Trujillo, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, concelebrated Mass today with Archbishop Angelo Comastri, rector of the national shrine.

Archbishop Comastri told Vatican Radio it was a day «to sing a hymn to life,» which «has been extinguished in many families, and in society, as today we breathe an air of death, of contempt for life, which begins in a mother’s womb, but which affects all phases of life.»

«Life is beautiful, life is a gift of God, life is a wonderful adventure,» the archbishop said, on the day the Church marked the solemnity of the Annunciation. «This is the meaning of the great Day of Prayer for Life in response to the Pope’s call in the encyclical ‘Evangelium Vitae.'»
