An International Race for the Eucharist, scheduled Aug. 29, aims to motivate the faithful through sports to make the most of the congress marking the start of the Year of the Eucharist.

Cardinal Juan Sandoval ĺñiguez of Guadalajara has blessed the contest. The 10.5-kilometer race starts at 8 a.m. from the metropolitan cathedral of Guadalajara and ends at the Shrine of Martyrs.

The plan is to gather some 3,000 athletes of all ages, divided in six categories for each sex.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each category. The race will take place on the main streets of Guadalajara as a show of faith in Christ alive in the Eucharist and as a way to promote human values.
