Among those attending the congress from abroad are 35 cardinals, 250 bishops, and more than 1,000 priests, say congress organizers.

The Spanish and English linguistic groups are the largest, followed by the Portuguese and Korean.

Popular participation has broken all records: Tuesday’s pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan, a town next to Guadalajara, gathered some 4 million faithful along the way.

Six thousand families of the Guadalajara area are housing an equal number of foreign congress participants for free.

The Philippine delegation numbers 200 pilgrims, and the South Korean 106. The weeklong event has attracted 500 Salvadorans and 100 people from Hong Kong, sources told ZENIT. The congress ends Sunday.
