In a statement today, Vatican spokesman Joaquín Navarro Valls explained that, during the weekly meeting with pilgrims, the Pope will appear at the window “to greet and bless the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.”

In recent days the rain and cold have been intense in Rome. When the Pope was at the window of his study on Jan. 30, he showed signs of illness. A bout of flu, which later triggered respiratory complications, led to his hospitalization Feb. 1-10.

Today, the Holy Father received six Spanish bishops in audience, on the occasion of their five-yearly visit to Rome.

On Sunday, the Pope read personally the message he prepared for the midday Angelus address, and he imparted a blessing from the window of his study.
