Condolences Sent at Prince Rainier's Death

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 6, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Acting as dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger sent a message of sympathy on the death of Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

In the telegram, addressed to the prince’s son, Prince Albert, the cardinal expressed sympathy on behalf of the cardinals and prayed that the «Lord will receive the deceased in the peace and eternity of his Kingdom.»

«I pray to the Lord that he will shed, on those who have been affected by this death, an abundance of divine blessings, pledge of consolation and hope,» he added.

Prince Rainier of Monaco died today at age 81 in the Cardiothoracic Center of the principality, where he was admitted on March 7. John Paul II sent him a message of greeting in Holy Week.
