The dioceses of Bayamo-Manzanillo, Cienfuegos, Matanzas and Santa Clara, located in the southeast and central regions of the Caribbean island nation, will each receive 10,000 euros ($12,000).

According to Xavier Legorreta, head of the Latin American section of Aid to the Church in Need, dozens of people lost their lives during the recent disaster and thousands were made homeless. He cited information he received from the apostolic nuncio and from local bishops.

The most urgently needed items include food, clothes, and household and sanitary items.

«Thanks to the Church and the bishops, the aid can come to the people without any difficulty or delay,» Legorreta said.
