«An abortion, small or great, is always a homicide,» said Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragán, president of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers, in response today to journalists who asked him for a comment on the abortifacient pill RU-486.

Two regions of Italy — Piedmont and Tuscany — have introduced the pill on an experimental basis, even though it goes against Italian legislation, according to the Ministry of Health.

Cardinal Camillo Ruini, addressing the Italian bishops’ conference meeting in Assisi on Monday, said that with the introduction of the abortifacient pill means «a further step is taken on the path that leads to not perceiving the nature of abortion, which is the elimination of an innocent human life.»
