ZENIT received the award in the International Journalism category for «its contribution, from the truth and ethics of information, to the building of a Christian culture.»
The news agency, the organizers of the award said, has «a clear awareness of its identity and mission, in the dissemination of news of the cultural, social, political and religious world, from the vision of the Church and the magisterium.»
Two prizes were awarded posthumously: one to Monsignor Luigi Giussani, founder of Communion and Liberation, and another to Spaniard Julián Marías, a leading 20th-century philosopher.
Rocco Buttiglione, Italian minister of culture, also won an award for his defense of life.
