A press release from the conference announced Wednesday that its Office of National Collections posted materials online to help parishes promote the «Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa,» established by the bishops in 2004.
The statement noted that Benedict XVI’s March visit to Africa and the upcoming bishops’ synod for Africa in the fall have «highlighted both the needs of the Church in Africa and its great promise.»
The working document for the synod, it explained, «calls for a united effort among Catholics to help end the injustices in Africa [and] to promote peace.»
Last year, dioceses contributed almost $2 million to the fund, which went to help schools, religious education, youth ministry and Catholic communications in Africa.
