RIMINI, Italy, AUG. 30, 2009 (Zenit.org).- The Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples at Rimini «is an authentic ‘miracle’ that has repeated itself for 30 years,» according to the ecclesial movement Communion and Liberation.

The Catholic lay organization said this today in a statement released at the conclusion of the week-long conference. Nearly 800,000 people attended to reflect on the spiritual heritage left by the movement’s founder, Monsignor Luigi Giussani.

This year’s theme was «Knowledge Is Always an Event.»

The movement said the meeting, featuring some 300 speakers, «contributed to the realization of a new knowledge of reality and in some instances even arrived at communicating the ultimate meaning of things.» T

«For seven days people were able to see that the journey of knowledge is not initiated by abstract speeches and explanations, but in the meeting of persons who know the real in a new and attractive way, because such a meeting is charged with a promise of truth and goodness,» said the communiqué.

Former British prime minister Tony Blair was a featured speaker, who offered a public testimony about the reason behind his conversion to Catholicism.

«Faithful to its tradition,» the statement noted, «The meeting proposed moments of real ecumenism with exponents of the Jewish, Orthodox and Muslim traditions, animated by a sincere will to dialogue in view of a peaceful coexistence in truth and diversity.»

Communion and Liberation revealed that the theme for 2010 will be, «That Nature Which Moves Us to Desire Great Things Is the Heart.»
