Ireland Readies Catholic Schools Week

DUBLIN, Ireland, JAN. 28, 2010 (Zenit.org).- At an event marking the inauguration of Catholic Schools Week, representatives of the Church in Ireland officially launched a new partnership to advocate for Catholic education.

Catholic Schools Week is celebrated in Ireland and in the United States beginning Sunday.

At this year’s event in Ireland, the Catholic Schools Partnership was also officially inaugurated.

The partnership joins the nation’s episcopal conference with the religious of Ireland and is «intended to support all partners in Catholic education at first and second level within the education system,» a statement from the bishops reported.

Bishop Leo O’Reilly of Kilmore, co-chair of the Strategic Task Group on Education, explained that the group «will act as advocate for Catholic education into the future.»

The theme for Catholic Schools Week in Ireland is «Catholic Schools — a light for every generation.»

In the United States, it is: «Catholic Schools – Dividends for Life.»
