In a Feb. 6 letter from the Philippines, Father Javier Guerra Ayala reflected on the Year for Priests, now more than half completed.

«We have to consider and live this Year for Priests as a special grace the Lord has given us to deepen and revitalize our response to his call, with our radical consecration to his person and his Gospel,» the prior-general encouraged.

He continued, «This would imply making Christ as our life and expression of our mission; responding lovingly and faithfully to the contemporary challenges and demands of the Church. It is to continue the discipleship of Christ as a community with particular values of our own Recollect spirituality.»

Father Guerra Ayala’s visit to the Philippines coincided with the National Congress for Clergy there, which gathered some 5,500 participants, including 41 Augustinian Recollects.

«St. Augustine reminds us that Christ is born in him who receives the body of Christ, and who in turn is united to him with spiritual bond,» the superior recalled.

Father Guerra Ayala also encouraged the Augustinians to prepare for the order’s upcoming General Chapter, set for this October in Spain. He encouraged the brothers to send suggestions and to pray for the meeting.
